NGO aiding developing countries by supplying resources within ICT. By
offering hardware, installation, training, support and take-back
systems for EE-waste, FAIR aims to become a premier ICT supplier
providing world leadership in cost effective computer networks and
communication solutions.
FAIR began a three-year Knowledge
enhancement and ICT environmental scheme in Kenya in 2003. By 2007,
1,400 PCs had been placed in 45 schools, and training in ICT had been
provided for more than 300 teachers, with the result that ICT has begun
to be used in the classroom and has provided direct access to new
information, teaching and communication for more than 30,000 pupils.
This is information that can change their lives.
To ensure environmentally sound handling of electronic waste a return
system for discarded PCs was put in place in 2007, with the first 25
tonnes of discarded equipment sent back to Norway to be recycled. By
the end of 2008, when the project is expected to have been completed, a
corresponding amount of ICT equipment that has been exported to Kenya
will have been imported back to Norway. http://www.fairinternational.org

Digital Links International
Digital Links International is a UK charity with whom
we have partnered to supply computers to needy learning institutions
in Kenya. Since 2003
Together, CFSK and Digital Links are helping the world's poorest communities
get the tools, knowledge and resources they need to solve problems
and change their lives.
A quality education is a great resource to beat poverty. But for millions
of people, especially women and girls, getting an education is next
to impossible. That's why DLIs supports CFSK's efforts to improve
educational opportunities in poor communities — opportunities that
lead to higher incomes, healthier families and more choices.
In our efforts to ensure safe and environmentally sound disposal of
electronic waste, Digital Links is now arranging for the safe and
secure re-export of computer components that cannot be recycled in
Kenya for end of life disposal. This ensures that CFSK remains an
eco-friendly operation – very important in this era of hazardous electronic
waste.
